PORT TALBOT YMCA -

YMCA PORT TALBOT PLAYERS

In 1921 Port Talbot YMCA set up a Drama Society known as the YMCA Players, entertained the local people of Port Talbot and Abervon until the late sixties. In 1955, a young man, with nothing in particular took to the boards at Port Talbot YMCA. Now this young man, some years later, is now our Patron; Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Port Talbot YMCA are pleased to announce the rise again of Drama at Port Talbot YMCA with the introduction of the YMCA Port Talbot Players. Here we will seek out and encourage talent, whether it be as a writer, actor, director, producer, stage / film crew, costume design, in fact any thing that makes us take a show from paper, to stage and may be to film.

The Role of the YMCA Players in the past was to encourage young people into the arts and to help them gain confidence and other social skills. Income raised from the performances support the work of Port Talbot YMCA and other ventures. Between 1939 and 1946, it has been recorded income from performances was in excess of £5'000, in today's money that is more than £40'000. We are now hoping to again raise funds from revenue gained by the performances of the YMCA Port Talbot Players, to help support the wider work of Port Talbot YMCA.
